Almost every person in America wants to lose a little weight. It might have been suggested by your doctor or you might have just had a baby and want to lose that baby fat. As with any new program, there are setbacks, and dieting is the program that gets the most setbacks.
Self-control to not eat the sweets or unhealthy fast food items that got you into the diet situation in the first place is not easy to maintain. Finding yourself at the fridge late at night is cheating on your diet. This is an example of a dieting setback.
There is not one single program developed that has not had setbacks. When you are dieting, if you haven’t been eating healthy for a while, your body will complain to you for taking away its happiness. This biological setback often can’t be eliminated.
When these kinds of setbacks occur, it is important not to get too depressed or upset with yourself. Depression is often a trigger to overeating. Getting upset with yourself will not get you the desired result; only discourage you to continue trying.
Setbacks also come in the form of non-self-control types. Out of your physical control, these types of setbacks are accidents that could happen to anyone. This type of setback is a car accident that could put you in bed for a while or a vacation that takes you to a place that does not have a healthy menu.
Accidents happen to everyone. Once you have gotten off your vacation or back home from your accident, work hard to get back to where you need to be on your diet. Do not allow yourself to not get back on the diet or it will be harder to do so later.
Creating this new menu with a friend or loved one is a good idea. This person not only will benefit from the diet but will also help you stick to it by watching you. No matter how healthy a person thinks they are, every person can stand to get a little more healthy.
If you have someone else working on losing weight with you, you will have more self-control. A psychological truth is that working with others has an effect on both parties. A person working with another to reach a goal will either want to win as if it were a race or to nurture the person to do the best they can.
Because they are pushing each other to do their best in maintain the diet, both people win. The cooperation between the two people helps keep the number of setbacks to a minimum. However, the setbacks can come easier if the two people cannot trust each other.
The key to success in these situations is trust. It is wise to find another partner if you do not feel you can trust them to be honest. Make sure you have aligned yourself with someone with whom you can work before you start your program.
If you do experience a setback, do not allow it to make you think you cannot achieve your goals. Take action and take control to reach that goal if you have set the goal to lose 20 pounds before a certain date. Do not let a couple of setbacks keep you from your goals.
