How many women could actually recognize the signs of menopause? This is not a loaded question but after reading a recent report on a survey conducted with over 2000 participants involved the results were startling to say the least.

For example, less than 25 per cent of the women surveyed didn’t know that if their periods stopped for a year or more they have reached menopause.

Recognizing the signs of menopause may not interest you at the moment if you are in your twenties or early thirties because quite frankly, why would you be thinking about it anyway.

However, dealing with menopause has a lot to do with preparing for it and being in a good mental state of mind. When it suddenly comes knocking on your door will you be able to

1. Recognize what it is and the symptoms associated with it and

2. Be able to deal with it’s symptoms.

Menopause Symptoms

Symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats, fatigue and difficulty sleeping plus frequent mood swings will become a part life for many. It’s amazing how many women will suffer these symptoms and not know what is happening to them.

One theory doing the rounds about why some women avoid even discussing the topic and it’s symptoms is the preconceived notion that the onset of menopause is relevant to old age. I say “nuts to that” as it’s just simply a natural process in a woman’s life and has nothing to do with old age at all.

A New Beginning

One of the welcome statistics from the survey revealed over fifty per cent of the women actually saw menopause as the beginning of a new phase in their lives. They saw it as a closing of one door and the opening of another.

What is the significance of this result? Simple, it means women with that type of attitude are more likely to deal with it’s symptoms more than those who want to “sweep the topic under the carpet.” It shows they understand what it means, will recognize the signs of menopause when it’s eventually their time and they will be better able to cope with it.

That’s what this article is all about. It’s just a reminder to have the right mental preparation when it comes to menopause because it’s not the “monster” it’s made out to be; just nature’s way of saying “this phase of your life is now concluded and it’s time for a new beginning.”
