Could Your Outdoor Brush Create A Fire

Outdoor areas are important to most homeowners. We like for our lawns and other yard plants to have a well manicured look all year long. We know what a challenge this can be when you do the work yourself especially if you have at least an acre of ground to contend with. It requires investing in tools, plants, fertilizers, and a lot of back labor. It is not easy or fast work.
The one problem that some people face is when they do not have a city or county pick up service that will come by ever so often and collect all of your leaves and brush that you must do something with once it has been cleared from your property. Unless you have a way or the desire to put the effort into turning it into mulch, the easiest and fastest way to get rid of the yard debris is to burn it.
This is not an unusual practice. Actually when you have property that is overgrown and full of dead tree branches and dried leaves, it can be more dangerous for your property if it caught on fire on accident. It would have a lot more fuel to burn. If it burned enough out of control it could even threaten your home. Freak outdoors fires can often be caused by a lightening strike or by someone tossing a cigarette out of their car window..
If you decide to burn your outdoor lawn debris, you should always take special care to not let it get out of control. This means that you should never burn on a windy day. It could carry sparks almost anywhere and end up burning your house, out buildings, cars, or even the property of a neighbor.
Make sure you have a way to extinguish the flames should they start to get out of control, like buckets of water nearby, a water hose that reaches to the fire, or even a mound of dirt that could be shoveled onto the flames. If you have a large area like a field that needs burning off, it could be a project that requires professional supervision like that of your local county or volunteer fire department. You should never start a fire of any kind on purpose if you are absolutely positive that you can keep it contained. Always check with local authorities to see if a burning permit might be required before you start the process.
