I’ll Take Yesterday’s Evil Over Today’s Evil Anytime!

August 28, 2008

An evil is stalking the world now that wasn’t here when I was a kid. Maybe it’s been here all along but as a kid I never saw it lurking near the cotton fields of north Alabama. We knew what the devil was of course, from going to the West Huntsville Baptist Church every Sunday morning and evening, but I don’t think it entered our minds to think he was walking down the same road as us. It’s different for boys today. They can’t have the same advantages I did growing up because it’s just too dangerous leaving them alone! Because something bad and ugly could be behind the next bush, kids are missing out on some of the important steps of growing up. Sadly, I doubt... Read more »

Wooden Toys Surpass Plastic Toys

August 28, 2008

When it comes to plastic toys and wooden toys, there is more of a chance that plastic toys will be purchased. However, consumers don’t seem to consider buying a wooden toy for their kid instead. In a few ways, it would be more worth the while to get. Let’s think of a few differences between the two. Plastic toys: they can break easily and the edges could harm the little children. Wooden toys, on the other hand, are more durable. If you were to stand on a toy truck made of plastic, there is a great chance that it will break, possibly leaving sharp edges that could cut your child and be fit only for the rubbish. Standing on a wooden truck is more likely to result in damage to you or whoever stood on... Read more »

Action Figures VS. Toy Trucks

August 28, 2008

Two of the most popular toy items for little boys are action figures and toy trucks or cars. If they were to see one of those items under a Christmas tree, they would most likely freak out with excitement and start playing with them immediately. It is true; action figures and toy trucks are a hit with young boys. But which one is more popular than the other? An action figure is a plastic figurine of a character, often from a movie, comic book, video game, or television program. These action figures usually are marketed towards little boys. One category of action figures that is always in high demand is the superhero action figure. Some superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Spiderman are perennial favorites, while the popularity of others goes dormant until the next major motion picture... Read more »

Toys That Have Been Recalled

August 28, 2008

Toys were created to brighten the day of innocent children of all ages. As many people know, there is a vast variety of toys that these youngsters play with nowadays. However, many people also know that not every creation in the factory was kept in stores for very long. Although it is unfortunate, it is true that some toys were considered very hazardous to children. Here are some up to date occurrences of recalled toys. In the category of learning toys, Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, NY, is voluntarily recalling about 15,000 Learning Pots & Pans Toys. Missing screws in the blue toy pan can cause the clear plastic cover to come loose and release small balls, presenting... Read more »

Should Dolls Be Role Models?

August 28, 2008

Children have to learn off something or someone. Whether it is from school, or from their classmates, they gain new knowledge wherever they go. You know how kids are; they imitate just about everything they see and hear. It would be normal for a little girl to want to have a little sister named Kelly and drive a pink car some day if Barbie was their favorite doll. Should dolls be role models? Many people think not, especially not Barbie. If anything, American Girl dolls would be great for your daughter. American Girl is part Disney, part Barbie, part Nancy Drew and part Tipper Gore. Its great cause, other than making money, is the defense of girlish innocence. It presents its characters as wholesome alternatives to the trash-talking, navel-baring role... Read more »

Breastfeeding, as you may have already heard, is the most recommended form of providing nourishment for the growing baby. Doctors and health care centers cannot stress enough how many great benefits are given to the mom and the baby when breastfeeding becomes established as a routine. If you are not yet familiar, here is a brief run through of the plus sides of breastfeeding. The baby is said to gain weight faster because of mom’s breast milk.
