Arizona Dam Causes Flooding
August 28, 2008
While it seems that many parts of the country are still suffering from droughts, although some not quite so severe as last year, the southeastern United States is still behind in normal amounts of rainfall in many places. This however has not been the case for some other parts of the country like the Midwest earlier this spring. Although rains have subsided there over the course of the summer, the rain has been wreaking havoc in one of the driest states in the country this week, Arizona. Several days of heavy rain that accumulated up to eight inches, caused a dam to break in Supai Canyon on a recent Sunday afternoon. This area of the Grand Canyon is very popular for hikers and campers... Read more »

Definitions and Dangers Of Genetically Modified Organisms
August 25, 2008
Can genetically modified organisms be defined? Biologists classify every living thing into four basic categories (Plantae, Animalia, Protista and Fungi). Yet, Genetically Modified Organisms could fall under several of those categories and therefore are in a category all their own. Since Genetically Modified Organisms often contain genes from different kingdoms, they do not fall into any of these categories and cannot technically be considered an animal, a plant, a protist or a fungi. Nor can they simply an animal, vegetable or mineral. They are not even natural (as nature has never combined the DNA of two different Kingdoms, in the history of the planet). Even when GMOs... Well the fact that you are reading this article means that you probably have a lawn that’s covered with trees that has a lawn full of mud and dead grasses that are unable to grow. Well, unfortunately for you there is no such thing as a grass that can grow with zero sunlight. Even one of the best bio-genetically altered variety of grasses, the Sir Walter, requires a minimum of three hours in the sun. So the best choice for you if you stubbornly want grass would be to perhaps trim those branches and allow for some sunlight to pierce through onto the grass. As an alternative you could get some attractive looking rocks and tanbark to... Read more »

August 22, 2008
When going for a morning walk, there are many beautiful butterflies in the air and sunning on plants or flowers. What can you do to make your backyard a haven for butterflies? First - Without a doubt, you have to stop using chemical pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides. These are deadly considering that butterflies begin their life as a caterpillar attached to a plant within a cocoon. Second - once you’ve eliminated this threat, the next important step is to provide ‘host plants’ to support the metamorphosis process. There... Read more »

All About Natural Hot Water Springs
August 19, 2008
For some of us there is simply nothing as relaxing after a long work day than coming home, drawing a deep hot bath, and soaking until our heart is content. It helps to soothe away all of the stress and body tensions we build up during the day. People have been doing this for thousands of years, but in past history it was not always as easy for others as it is for us. Heating enough water for a large bathing tub and keeping it hot throughout the soaking time could be quite difficult unless you were fortunate enough to have servants to do the water heating for you. Almost everyone has heard about... Read more »
When Roads Suffer Water Damage
August 19, 2008
It can make for a very uncomfortable car ride when you must travel for a long time down a road somewhere that is riddled with potholes. Potholes can be terrible for the front end and undercarriage of your car especially when you do not see them coming. When you hit a deep pothole doing fifty or sixty miles an hour, it can do some real damage when you do not have time to slow down. Although all states in our country try as they might to keep up with repairing state highways and interstates, it can be a never ending job to try and keep up with the destruction that roads endure year after year. Focusing so much on the main roads in a state can sometimes leave little funding for back roads that many of us have to use to get back and forth to our homes when we live in more rural areas, but we must drive on them anyway. There are... Read more »
