Airfare dirt cheap just isn’t possible anymore you say? The truth is you can still save a bundle. The current economic conditions with gas prices and the shrinking dollar has has a huge effect on travel over the last 12 months but you can win the war against high prices!
The last year or so has seen dramatic changes in travel costs but it really is possible to secure yourself some great prices on cheap airfare if you know the tricks.
And remember, airfare dirt cheap only means getting a heck of a lot better deal than the person sitting next to you got.
1. Bump Your Way TO A Better Price.
Yes, this method has been around for quite awhile but still, many people have never tried it. Your main goal is to try and give up your seat to someone else on an overbooked flight. When you do, you can most often get the next flight out at an incredible discount.
This technique has lost it’s popularity over the years due to the sheer number of flights the airlines had running but I foresee a great comeback in the near future as less flights lead to more overbooking.
You must be able to have a somewhat flexible schedule and get to the airlines well before your departure time to let the staff know you will bump if the flight is overbooked. Once you get the hang of how this technique works be prepared to save some real money!
2.The Bucket Shop Method
If you use the Hotwire’s, Travelocity’s and Expedia’s of the world you have no doubt saved lots of money on airfare…but…you can get even deeper discounts by checking out consolidators like tour operators, bucket shops and charter services.
Never heard of it? Using this method can actually save you upwards of %50 or more. If you’ve ever book a flight online, you will find these types of aggregators just as easy to deal with.
These businesses are consolidators who buy their tickets in big blocks. They buy them at a fixed price and you never have to worry about restrictions or other airline rules.
It’s not unusual to find airfare dirt cheap from one of these guys for flights already sold out by the airlines saving you a nice chunk of change.
There are many consolidators to choose from such as Bucket Shop, Travel Hub, Air Brokers and others if you know where to look. So, what are you waiting for! Get creative, save some cash!
3. Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. Or Is It?
I know it might sound crazy but breaking up your flight just a little might save you a small wad of cash. Instead of buying that single trip ticket, “hop” your way to wherever it is you are going. If you can make your “hop” city a hub that the airlines must fly to anyway, the savings could be even more.
Sounds weird huh but I’ve save quite a bit by doing this. It works especially well by making your hop city a hub. They must fly there anyway and believe it or not…it works!
4. Take Your Luggage And Ship It!
If you plan your trip correctly you can save big bucks by just shipping your luggage UPS. The airlines are charging more and more these days for your luggage and that doesn’t guarantee it will even get there.
You may be surprised to find that by doing a little research with UPS, FedEx and others that you could save a small bundle by just shipping with them instead! You may just be able to cut that expense in half.
Remember, this does work well if you have a large family or have several bags you need to check. And the best part? Your luggage is guaranteed to be there when your are!
These are but a few of the tricks to finding dirt cheap airfare. If you know where to look, you can stop paying full price as well. It’s not hard, I guarantee it!
